Happy Thanksgiving!

We are all feeling very thankful today, our last day before Thanksgiving Break. To welcome in the holiday, we talked about being thankful for even the littlest things in our life... like coats to keep us warm, a safe place to come to school and even the food in the cafeteria that nourishes our bodies. We strung each of cards onto a string to make my favorite thing... a banner.

After giving thanks, we went to meal planning! Each student got a HyVee ad and a dinner budget! They had to plan and pay for a Thanksgiving meal for their families! It was so funny hearing students talk while they planned. "I'm on a budget! I can't afford that pie!" I hope they realize that planning a holiday meal... any meal in that case... costs money and sometimes we don't get everything we want! Students had to add, subtract and multiply to find totals, tax, and change back! I used this free download and then used real grocery store ads...because it's more fun!

To finish out our day, students got a reminder about how thankful I am to be their teacher!

I hope you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving and that giving thanks doesn't just happen once a year. Remember to stop and be thankful for the tiniest of blessings.
